X (Twitter) will start charging an annual fee for new accounts.

X, previously known as Twitter, is experimenting with a $1 annual fee for new users as part of a trial program called “Not a Bot,” currently being tested in New Zealand and the Philippines. Failure to pay will result in the user being unable to tweet or retweet.

X’s concept involves gathering unconfirmed reports on a regular basis. If this concept is universally implemented, individuals would need to pay just $1 annually to access the social network. Otherwise, their ability to perform actions such as posting, liking, responding, retweeting, quoting, tagging accounts in comments, and more would be restricted.

X will not bill current users for this amount and the billing plan is intended to prevent spam, platform manipulation, and “bot” activities.

This new test aims to enhance our existing successful measures in reducing spam, platform manipulation, and bot activity. It also seeks to maintain platform accessibility while considering the low fee’s significance.

Signature options have been the primary effective solution on a large scale.

Verification of mobile number and payment of $1 annually will be necessary.

On Tuesday last week, new users in New Zealand and the Philippines were required to verify their accounts with a phone number for authentication. Additionally, a $1 fee was imposed to unlock full access beyond reading posts, watching videos, and following accounts.
